historical-facts-about-thailand

There is probably nothing more impressive and unique from Thailand than their narrow canals with large boats where they sell foods and goods of all kinds. That´s right these are known as floating markets and although they are famous in more countries of Asia, seeing them In Thailand is something very different and special.

Floating markets were created in Thailand because a while ago what today is a road with many street markets, in the past was a jungle and the only way to move around and sell your products was by boat. Nowadays (although it´s not so necessary anymore), it has stablished as a way of selling things, plus is a major tourist attraction for tourists.

Not so far from Bangkok (about 1 hour away), you will find Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, which is the most touristy and famous floating market in Thailand. Visiting it is a must, but it´s so touristy that we advise you to visit other ones like Bang Kachao.

mind-blowing-facts-about-thailand

It´s sad to mention this on a list of popular things about Thailand, but it´s true, this country is known for two things, for having a huge wildlife diversity and for abusing animals by caging and exporting them to other countries, or with “fake” sanctuaries that take their liberty away from them.

If you go to Thailand and they offer you elephant rides, or petting any weird and endemic animal from Thailand, please say no to them and report it, as these things are not only illegal, but also the main reason why the wildlife of Thailand is decreasing very fast.

There are many zoos in Thailand where animals are drugged to be less dangerous to humans. This causes them many diseases and also kills many of them, so please do not go to the zoos neither.

Thailand is known as the land of smiles and you can imagine why right? Maybe having such a delicious food or so many paradise islands make their locals be happier, but the truth is that the people from Thailand are known for being one of the nicest.

As it happens with the people from Indonesia, Thailand locals have a carefree attitude, which means they don´t get stressed so much and enjoy life in a happier mood.

Other interesting facts about Thailand

These were some of the important things to know about Thailand, but there is much more information you should know before visiting this country.

Although not so many people know about them, next you will find some other curious facts about Thailand:

🕵 11) Scams

top-10-things-in-thailand

We told you about how nice the locals from Thailand are, but as it happens in every single country, there are always exceptions. Unfortunately, scams are one of those things related to Thailand.

The most typical scams are made by the “Tuk Tuk Mafia” which may be waiting at the Grand Palace or any other popular attraction to tell you that it´s closed, ad instead they will take you to a city tour around the shops (They get a commission from them). It´s also very common to get scammed by taxi drivers that will demand you a much higher rate than the real one.

Thailand has created a tourist police department where you can report the scams.

🚦 12) Crazy Traffic

amazing-facts-about-thailand

One of the worst things about Thailand is its traffic. As soon as you get to the country (more if you arrive to Bangkok), you will realise that the traffic is crazy, imagine how it is, that it´s compared to India.

When a road is designed with 2 lanes, they convert it into 4 disorganized lanes, where Tuk Tuks and motorcycles are passing by the tiny spaces that are left.

If you are trying to go to the airport or somewhere far away, we recommend you travelling outside of the peak hours, as the traffic can make a huge difference of time when going from one place to another.

🍻 13) Parties and nightlife in Thailand

common-facts-about-thailand

Due to the increase of tourism in Thailand during the last years, their parties and nightlife in general have become very popular as well. Bars, rooftop discos, and a huge quantity of nightclubs, there are all kind of places to enjoy the night in Thailand.

Khao San Road, Soi Ranbuttri and Full Moon Party are some of the favourite party destinations for travellers and for locals. Plus, these areas have a great atmosphere with street food places and night activities, so even if you are not much of a party person, you will be able to enjoy the epic nights of Thailand.

The one thing we recommend you is that although locals are very nice, you are still partying at a place where people don´t have much money, so always be careful with your stuff.
