Top 10 best Indonesian places to visit:
Those who know as well or have been following us in Instagram since we decided to travel to Indonesia for the first time, can tell you how much we love this country. The number of places you can visit in Indonesia is just uncountable, mountains, beaches, volcanos, and some cool cities too, it just has everything you can imagine!
Even though we would love to tell you about all the Indonesia tourist attractions there are, it would be impossible to finish, therefore, we have decided to make a short list with the top 10 most beautiful places to visit in Indonesia:
10) Piainemo Island

Even though Raja Ampat is becoming more and more popular in the last years, but due to how remotes these islands are, there are still no crowds and doesn´t mater which time of the year you go, you´ll always find them empty.
Out of all these islands, there´s one that stands out, which is Piainemo. These may be the first time you heard of it, but once you see photos of it, you´ll realize it is an extremely famous place in Indonesia.
The best of Piainemo, is that it isn´t hard to reach from Waisai (the main Raja Ampat island) and the hike to the top of the island, where you will see the stunning views, isn´t that hard. The only but, is that Raja Ampat isn´t exaclty one of the chepest places to visit in Indonesia.
9) Tegalalang Rice Terrace

At this point, I bet we all have seen a minimum of a thousand photos of the famous rice fields in Bali, right? Well, let us tell you, this one we are going to show today, is the most popular one and it is absolutely impressive, even more if you make it there for sunrise or golden hour time.
Tegalalang is about 20 minutes north from Ubud and even though it is indeed a very touristic spot, is isn´t as bad as other places in Bali. The good thing about these rice fields, is that just by walking a little further in, you will start to see less and less crowds. This terrace should definetly be in your list of places to go in Indonesia.
8) Kelimutu National Park

Another of the must-see places in Indonesia is this national park located in Flores Island, Nusa Tengara province. Of course, the highlight of these national park, is the famous Kelimutu volcano and its three 3 colored lakes.
The story of these lakes seems to be taken out of a fairy tale story or a sci-fi movie. Thanks to the geological process ongoing beneath the surface, these lakes have the ability of changing its colors. It is said that all of them change them once per year, but surprisingly, in 2016 their colors change 6 different times!
Kelimutu is one of the most magical places in Indonesia and everyone should admire at least once in their life.
7) Tumpak Sewu Waterfall

Located in east Java and about 2 hours by car from Malang, you will find another famous tourist destination in Indonesia. This time we are talking about the popular Tumpak Sewu Waterfall.
Although Sewu Waterfalls aren´t as popular as Iguazu, Victoria, or Niagara Falls, in our opinion they are even as impressive. Not only because of the waterfall itself, but also because of how wild the surroundings are.
We advise you to go there earlier, as the hike to get to the falls can be a bit long, and you will definitely need some extra time to explore the area. From the upper side, you will have the most impressive view, with Semeru volcano in the background.
6) Gunung Leuser National Park

We have made a special section about wildlife in Indonesia, but we still had to mention this national park in the list of places you have to visit in Indonesia.
Gunung Leuser is in the border between North Sumatra and Aceh provinces and it is known as one of the richest tropical rainforests in Southeast Asia. This Indonesian natural park covers up to 7927 Km2 and it is one of the few places on earth where you will be able to see animals like Orangutans and Sumatra rhinos and tigers. You will also find a bunch of monkeys, macaques, and gibbons.
Please, have in mind this is the natural habitat of these species, so make sure to be respectful when visiting.
5) Kelingking Beach (T-Rex Bay)

Kelingking Beach also known as T-Rex Bay, is for sure the most famous place in Indonesia and it probably wouldn´t even require a presentation. Just in case it is the first time you heard of it and you were wondering, the T-Rex comes from the shape of the main cliff, which literally has the shape of T-Rex.
This popular Indonesian place is located in Nusa Penida Island, right next to Bali. Although the beach itself is an absolute paradise and it isn´t too crowded, reaching it can be hard, so most people decide to visit it just to admire the views. If you do decide to go down, make sure to bring some shoes, because it can get dangerous.
4) Wae Rebo Village

Not sure if we can still consider this village a hidden gem in Indonesia, as it is getting more touristic in the last years, but it is still an unknown destination for many and you will definitely not see crowds.
Wae Rebo Village is also located in Flores Island and the main reason why we rank it in this list of things do in Indonesia, is to admire the unique style of their 7 houses (only) and the way of living of their 1,200 locals.
The village is totally isolated in the middle of the mountains and it is an authentic example of sustainable life, where people live without phones and electricity is only available from from 6 to 10 pm.
3) Borobudur temple

We could not finish this list of the most interesting places to visit in Indonesia, without mentioning at least one temple, and out of all of them, there´s one that stands out, which is Borodubur.
Borobudur Temple is the world’s biggest Buddhist sanctuary, but that isn´t the reason why it is so popular. Lots of people visit it every year to admire its impressive architecture and details.
The best way to reach the temple is traveling to Yogyakarta city, from there you will have a 1-hour drive by car. If you have the chance, we totally recommend you visiting this place at sunrise with the low light.
2) Komodo National Park

Sumatran rhinos, tigers and orangutans are Indonesian symbols, but if there is one animal that really represents Indonesia, that is the Komodo Dragon. Komodo Island is the only place in the world where you will be able to see these creatures free and wild.
If you are not such a wildlife fanatic, don´t worry, because animals aren´t the only thing you will find here. Reaching the island is by itself quite an experience, but what is more important, once you make it, you will be surprised by the impressive beaches and landscapes Komodo has.
Oh, and one more thing! If you visit Komodo, make sure to go and spend some time at the pink beach, it is actually pink!
10) Mount Bromo

And of course, we must finish this list of the most best places to visit in Indonesia with Mount Bromo. It is for sure one of the most iconic landmarks in Indonesia and the views of it from all over Java will leave you speechless.
A must do excursion if you visit this part of Indonesia is hiking to the top of Mount Penanjakan, where you will have not just the view of Mount Bromo, but also a few other mountains, usually covered with smoke. Although it can get very crowded during sunrise time, we still believe this is the best time to visit this place.
