What is the Statue of Unity?? It´s the biggest statue in the world. During our last trip to India, we decided to visit what is one of the most famous things in Gujarat.

We had an incredible experience. Not only the huge size of the statue impressed us, but also the views from the top. This famous monument of India represents the popular politician Sardar Patel. Since the Statue of Sardar Patel was built many people visit it every day and it has become not just one of the most important monuments in India, but also in the whole world.

What is the best time to visit the Statue of Unity?


One thing you should know before going is what is the best time to visit the Statue of Unity. There are different options, but we always recommend you going when there are less crowds as it´s more enjoyable. These are the best times to visit the Statue of Sardar Patel:


Although it is not possible to go inside at sunrise time as it´s still not open, we still recommend it as the best time to visit the statue. You can take photos from outside and then stay there to be the first one getting inside. That will be the only way to enjoy the place all for yourself.


Another good option is visiting the statue during sunset time as you will see it with colours which is beautiful.

Statue of Unity light show

This was one of the times we visited the monument and it was totally worth it. It is true that if you want to take pictures it´s not the best time . But the light show of the Statue of Unity was beautiful, plus you will get to hear about the amazing history of India (Or that’s what we believe, because they were not speaking English so we could not understand it).

Day time

We also visited the statue during the day! The only problem we had, is that everyone goes at day time and we are not big fans of crowds. Luckily, we somehow manage to get some shots with almost no people!

These are the Statue of Unity visiting hours:

  • From Tuesday to Sunday the hours are from 08:00Am to 18:00Pm
  • You can get the tickets from 7:30Am to 17:00Pm
  • On Monday it´s closed for maintenance work.

Except Mondays, the light show time starts at 19:30Pm and it lasts about 30minutes.

What is the ticket price of the Statue of Unity?

There are three different prices of the Statue of Unity:

The normal pass is a basic entry to the Statue, which gives you access to everything except the viewpoint from the top. This costs 120 Rupees for adults and 60 for kids.

If you want to see the view from the top, the costs are 350Rupees for adults and 200 for kids.

There is also an express ticket for holidays and weekends, which gives you the possibility of skipping the queue. The cost is 1000 rupees.

What is the Height of the Statue of Unity?


As we said the Sculpture is the biggest statue in the world and that´s a lot to say. But how much is that? What is the height of the Statue of Unity? Well the difference between the tallest statue and the second one is huge, the sculpture is 182 meters (in feet is 597ft) let´s see what are the heights of the other ones.

But the truth is that the Statue of Sardar Patel is twice the size of the Statue of Liberty. And not only that, the famous and 133 years old statue of liberty receives 10.000 visitors per day, while the Indian monument which is just one year old receives 8.500 daily visitors, isn´t it crazy?

Where is the Statue of Unity located?


Surprisingly the biggest statue in the world is not located in a really famous area. The location of the Statue is Kevadia in Gujarat. We spent 4 days in Gujarat and enjoyed a lo this area so there is way much more to see than just the famous statue.

Plus, if you are a nature lover, you should know that the Statue is located near a nature reserve, and you may be able to spot some wildlife during your time there.

Another thing you should know is that the Statue of Unity is located by the Narmada river.

How to reach the Statue of Unity?

As we said the location is not in a popular area, and that means it´s far away from the big touristic cities. The best way to access the monument is going to Gujarat and then renting a car or going with a tour guide that will take you to Kevadia. Next we will explain you how to reach the Statue of Unity from different areas of Gujarat.

How to reach the statue of Unity from Vadodara?

Vadodara is one of the big cities of Gujarat, and it´s the most recommended area if your final destination is the monument of Sardar Patel. Vadodara is the closest city to the Statue of Unity, it´s about 95km and around 2 hours and 30 minutes ride (depending on the traffic).

How to go to the Statue of Unity from Surat?

Our route to the huge statue and in general our trip in Gujarat started in Surat. Although it´s not the longest trip, it´s not the shortest either. It takes about 154 km or 3hours and 30 minutes by car.

How to reach the Statue of Unity from Ahmedabad?

If your plan is to reach the Statue of Unity from Delhi, Mumbai or other places of India, you will be probably flying to Ahmedabad, as it´s the biggest city of Gujarat. It´s true that is the longest ride but is easier and cheaper to fly to Ahmedabad so it´s still a really nice option. The time of the trip will be about 4 hours and 200km.

Sardar Patel was an independence activist who lived from 1875 to 1950. He was the first deputy prime minister of the independent India. His major recognition is to be the responsible of the union of the 552 main states into the single nation of India.

When was the Statue of Unity made?

The inauguration date was the 31st of October of 2018. It´s just a one-year old monument! One of the most interesting facts about the monument of Sardar Patel is that although it´s the biggest statue in the world, it took only 40 months of construction time.

Who made the Statue of Unity??

The statue of Sardar Patel was designed by the Indian sculptor Ram V. Sutar and it was inaugurated by the prime minister Narendra Modi.

Project Cost

The cost of the Statue of Unity project was around ₹2,063 crore (which is a total of ₹25 billion or US$360 million). The cost was covered by the government.
