We would have choose just one of the stunning places in Lapland, but there are so many that it was just better to talk about the whole region.

Lapland is the most northern side of the country and a road trip through the region is adviced. If you decide to visit during winter time, you will be able to admire some of the wildest places in Finland covered with snow, which just makes it epic. It is the best place to connect with nature.

2- Santa Claus

Another thing Finland is known for, is Santa Claus. The Christmas movies have always told us that Nicholas was from a town in Lapland called Korvatunturi, but is it really true?

Well, there is an actual prove that could tell us where St Nicholas was from. A group of Turkish archaeologists discovered a tomb at St Nicholas Church in the province of Antalya, Turkey in October 2017 and it could be him.

This is definetly a great argument for the Turkish, but it is also true that after so many years, it will be hard to tell what is real or not. Lets just say you are free the believe whatever you want. What we all must admit, is that Finland has a more magical vibe thanks to the northern lights, the snow and the wild reinders.

Believe it or not, Finland is also known as the the happiest country in the world! At least it is according to the World Happiness Report published by the U.N. Sustainable Development Solutions Network.

This study shows how happy people are with the GDP per capita, life expectancy, social support, trust and corruption, perceived freedom to make life decisions, and generosity of their country. For the third consecutive years, Finland has made to the first position in this ranking.

It is hard to believe for many people in the southern countries, as there isn´t that much sun and it is super cold, but I mean who could not be happy in such a magical place!

That´s right! It may sound weird, but another thing Finland is known for, is for having some of the best movile phone games´creators in the world.

Out of all of them there is one thay stands out, which is of course Angry Birds. We bet there isn´t a single person on this planet who have not heard about this famous game.

But that is not it, the Finnish also came up with popular games such as Clash of Clans, Hay Day, Hill Climb Racing, Boom Beach, Angry Birds 2…

We must admit Finland dishes aren´t that popular internationally. You just won´t find food as famous as Pizza in Italy, Churros in Spain or Spring rolls in China, but that doesn´t mean their food isn´t good, furthermore there are many plates you would sure love to try.

Out of all of them, the most popular finnish recipe is the Karjalanpiirakka. This delicious pastry or pie is original from the region of Karelia, but nowadays you will be able to find all over Finland, so if you are making a trip there, you sure need to try it. The main ingredients are  barley, rye, oats and pea flour.

Finninsh are also known for loving Saunas, but not like everybody else, people in Finland take saunas to another level.

Finland is known as the Land of a Thousand Lakes, the reason this happens is because Finland is fully covered with lakes.

Just so you can imagine how many lakes there are in the country, comparing it with the population, there is a lake for every 26 Finns. 10% of Finland´s territory is water.

The reason why Finland has so many lakes is because in the past, the country used to be covered with glaciers. Once they began melting they ended up creating all these lakes.

9- The Moomins

Being honest, we had no idea what the Moomins were, I guess we are too young for it. Apparently, The Moomins weren´t just very famous in Finland, but all over the world, almost as popular as Pokemon was some years ago.

They started as comics, but once they gained popularity, a show and even movies about them were created. Every kid loved it.

Of course, they aren´t that famous nowadays, but if you travel to Finland you will still see Moomins´souvenirs all over the place, there is even a theme park in Finland called Naantali Moomin World.

Last of all and finishing with out list of “What is Finland known for”, we have to talk about the Finnish education, which is considered by many one of the best in the world.

Their system is pretty different from many countries. To begin with, kids don´t start school until the age of 7, they have just 5 hours of classes per day and they have a 15 minutes break for each hour and exams or tests aren´t required until senior year.

Many will doubs if this system can work at all, but the truth is that Finland always ranks in the first positions in the PISA exams and what is more important, the difference between the best and worst students, is the smallest in the world.

Räikkönen has been one of the best Formula One drivers of the last decade, and he even managed to win the 2007 Formula One World Drivers’ Championship competing against two other legends, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton.

He also competed in the World Rally Championship in 2010 and 2011 and NASCAR.

You sure didn´t know about this one, but another thing FInland is famous for is coffee. Not because of how they make it, but more because of how much they cosume it.

Finland is the biggest coffee consumer (per person) in the world, that means there are many coffee shops all over the country. Therefore, if you are like them and you just need a few cups of coffee a day, you won´t have to worry about it when traveling to Finland.

Each person in Finland consumes in average 10Kg of coffee per year.

As we were saying earlier, Finland is one of the best countries to visit if you are a nature lover, the lakes are one of the reasons, but the best of all, is that these lakes are usually surounded by huge and impressive forests.

The same way 10% of the country is cover by lakes and water, another 70%, is covered by forests. That means, doesn´t matter which part you decide to visit, you will always have the chance of going into the wild.

There isn´t a country in Europe, with that many forests.
