5 Best beaches in Benidorm

Benidorm is one of the cities that receives most visitors during the year, and although there are many reasons for it (Party, great food and a good atmosphere), the truth is that the majority of the people visit it due to its popular beaches.

Today we have brought you a list with the top 5 best beaches in Benidorm:

1) Playa de Poniente

Of course, we had to start our list with one of the two most famous beaches in Benidorm, which is “Playa de Poniente”, or also known as Poniente beach in English.

The Poniente Beach is the largest beach in Benidorm, it´s length is about 3km, which means that it´s perfect for those who love to do long walks near the seashore. We must admit, that for us, Poniente is the best beach in Benidorm, as it´s perfect to do more relaxing activities.

It provides all kind of services to make a perfect experience. There are places to rent umbrellas or sunbeds, you will also see many attractions to do water activities, and of course, on that area can also enjoy eating in nice restaurants. Families and older people are normally the type of people you will find over there.

2) Playa de Levante

Another of the main two beaches in Benidorm is “Playa de Levante” or Levante beach. It´s located right on the other side of the beach we have just mentioned before. On one hand, it has a great advantage, which is that due to the orientation, you can stay more time at the beach because the sun lives later. On another hand, the distance of the beach is not so big, is about 2km long.

Surprisingly, although it´s smaller than Poniente beach, it still receives way more visitors. The reason why this happens is that Playa de Levante has a more “party atmosphere”, which means there are more young people, there are also more “Chiringuitos” (beach bars), more hotels and in general more activities.

As it happens with Poniente beach, the Levante one is also considered “blue flag beach”. This is a tittle that recognizes the best beaches in Europe and to own it, a beach needs to fulfill requirements as having a clear ocean, decent services for tourists and more.

Which one is better Poniente or Levante beach?

We have already told you all about each of the beaches, but since we know you are having big troubles to decide which one you want to visit, we have decided to make a comparative table showing you the characteristics of both:

Playa de Poniente
  • 3 Kilometres distance
  • It´s a better beach for families (More relaxed)
  • Perfect to go for a walk as it´s very wide and you won´t need to close to other people
Playa de Levante
  • It has a length of 2 kilometres
  • It´s noisier and has a more “Party atmosphere”
  • There are many discos and locals around
  • Due to the orientation, you will have more hours of sun

3) Playa del Mal Pas

Let´s now talk about the best cove in Benidorm… or at least in our opinion. Playa del Mal Pas is a tiny beach located right between “Playa de Levante” and “Playa de Poniente”, its distance is only 120 meters, but we still recommend you visiting it.

Of course, is a very nice area to go for a swim, chill and enjoy your vacations, but the real reason why so many people visit it, is because it´s very photogenic. If you want to get a good photo from “Playa del Mal Pas”, we recommend you seeing it from the old town. The shape of the beach and its palms will look perfect on the frame.

Another advantage we have to add is that due to the fact that it´s located between two beaches in a closed area, there is way less swell than in the rest of the beaches of Benidorm.

4) Cala de la Almadrava

And again, other than being a beach, “Cala de la Almadrava” is a very small cove with only a distance of around 100 meters. Although it´s a beautiful cove, we can not tell you that it´s one of those nice sandy beaches of Benidorm, as it has a mix of sand and rocks.

There are only three types of people who visit this beach: The ones that are running away from tourists and want to enjoy a more natural scenery (The beach is located under Sierra Helada Natural Park); also, the people who like to do snorkel or scuba diving (There is a great undersea diversity in this area); and last of all, it´s also one of the few nudist beaches in Benidorm, so I guess it´s perfect for those who want to walk around naked.

The good news about this beach is that despite of being located in the mountains and aside of everything, it´s still considered official and there is a security flag and a lifeguard.

Other beaches near Benidorm

Many people wonder how many beaches and coves are in Benidorm, and the truth is that you will only find the 5 we have mentioned before. Don´t worry, because if you want something different, there also other beaches around Benidorm that are very close to the city:

6) Finestrat beach

The Finestrat Beach or also known as Cala de Finestrat is one of the most popular beaches in the area. It´s located only about 10 kilometers away from Benidorm, you may need to go by car, but it has an easy access.

It´s a beautiful beach, but we totally recommend you visiting it in low season as it gets very crowded during the summer months. The beach itself although it´s considered a cove, it has a distance of 300 meters and since so many people visit it every day, the majority consider it a beach and not a cove.
